Getting Ready to go Grocery Shopping (and Save Money)It is important to be prepared when you go grocery shopping. By following these few steps of preparation, you will save money at the grocery store.

- You should have gone through your grocery store circular and circled all of the items that you need to buy or have the coupons for big savings.
- Make a grocery shopping list of the things you have to buy on this trip
- Clean out your refrigerator and freezer to see what you have and what you need. Throw away old vegetables that are going bad and clean out those containers of leftovers that have started growing. You don't have to do a major Spring Cleaning type of cleaning, just get rid of the bad stuff so the new stuff won't get lost. Think of the money you waste by buying food and letting it go bad. Make a note of what you didn't use and either use it the next time, buy less or don't buy it at all.
- Stop by your pantry to see what is there and what may be running low. You should have done this when you were going through your grocery circular. Hopefully, there is nothing that you MUST buy. You don't want to pay full price!
- Bring a small calculator with you to the store. I keep a small one in my coupon box.
- Eat!!! This may seem sillyl, but if you are hungry at the store, you will spend about 10% more than if you are not hungry. You want to shop with your brain and not with your stomach. Even if its just a small snack, you should eat something!
