Grocery Coupon Rule 2: Check the price of store brand grocery items before using the coupon.
Always check the prices of store brands (as well as less expensive generic brands) first. Store brands are almost always fo equal quality to name brands ard are usually offered at great discounts. In fact, did you know that many of the grocery store brand itmes are actually made by their name brand counterparts? I find it very disturbing when I see someone purchasing a half gallon of name brand fresh orange juice for $3.99 with a 35 cent cuopon, when they could get virtually the same product for $1.50 if they purchased a store brand. Even with a triple coupon, they have not saved a cent!
Furthermore, always be certain the size package you are purchaing is the least expensive. Larger does not always mean cheaper. Most grocey stores have labels on their shelves which show the item price and the unit price. (ex. price per gallon or price per 100 count). It is the unit price you should always use to cmopare prices. In doing so, you will find that often, although larger packaging may offer convenience, they do not always offer savings. But, of couse, these rules are just common sense and general smart shopping, not part of my annual savings of a couple thousand dollars, although if you do not currently follow these rules, you can expect to save even more money!
